Goyescas at Teatro de Turín

ON THIS PERFORMANCE

Goyescas is an opera in one act and three pictures, composed by Enrique Granados in 1915, with a Spanish libretto by Fernando Periquet with melodies taken from his piano suite from 1911, also called Goyescas. He was inspired by Goya’s tapestry cartoons.

Granados’ inspiration to write his popular piano suites came from Francisco de Goya’s paintings. After the enthusiastic response to his piano work, Granados was encouraged to compose the opera by Ernest Schelling, an American pianist who premiered the suite in the US.
